Fortress Königstein

Königstein Fortress is an ensemble of diverse structures built over seven centuries. Just like a living organism, each building had its own specific function, in order to guarantee the survival of its inhabitants during times of both peace and war.

Although it was never conquered, Königstein was a showcase of European history and hosted many influential personalities. Not only the kings and electors of Saxony visited here; Tsar Peter I, Crown Prince Friedrich of Prussia (later Friedrich II) and Napoleon counted among its guests.
